On Sunday (Feb. 3), the NFL held its annual Super Bowl event. Leading up to the main attraction, one of the most prominent topics of conversation was Colin Kaepernick's absence from the league for another year.
To voice their support of the 31-year-old athlete, artists like Cardi B and Rihanna turned down offers to perform at the halftime show. The latter received praise from Kaepernick on Twitter after she jokingly posed a question as to where one can watch the game.
"I really appreciate @rihanna keepin it 100," Kaepernick tweeted on Feb. 4, the day after the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams' game. In October 2018, Us Weekly published a statement from a source that seemingly confirmed Rihanna's decision to boycott the league. On the subject of the halftime show, the source said, "They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn't agree with the NFL's stance."
